A soft mod is the preferred method of video game modding. When you soft mod your wii or any other device, you are modifying it using software. There are many advantages to doing it this way.

Also, if there are updates to the software it’ll be fairly easy to update your modded wii also.

But there are some dangers.

Like I’ve already mentioned, you may very mess the whole thing up and render your video game console useless.

Also, Nintendo and the other video game manufacturers are also updating their firmware to detect the latest modding software and hacks.

And finally, modding your wii, even a soft mod, will void your warranty.

A hard mod is when you perform surgery on your wii.

That’s when you actually change your video games hardware. This it typically done by opening up your wii and installing a mod chip.

Personally, I don’t recommend this method. The chances of making a mistake and destroying your Wii are just too great. One little slip up, and you’ve got yourself a three hundred dollar plastic brick.

Then you download the Homebrew software, save that to your SD card or USB also (you should either clear the data on the storage device or use a new one) then transfer that to your Wii.

After that, it’s a simple process of going back and forth and transferring the necessary software to complete the Wii mod.

Since this is a hack job, there may be some glitches in the games and software as you download them. So you might have to spend some time searching Google and forums to figure out how to fix them. But you’ll find the information pretty easily if you’re patient.

Make Sure Your Console Has The 4.3 Wii Mod

It is essential you have the latest Wii 4.3 mod. There have been many ways to mod a wii but the game manufacturer keeps sending out these updates to block the mods. Therefore, you have to keep up with the latest modding techniques.

You might get some people who advise you to use the “Twilight Princess” technique. But that’s out of date. Nintendo has long since created updates that disable any mod you might have gotten from there.

The most recent update released by Nintendo, as of the writing of this article, is version 4.3. This version blocks and disables just about all previous mods that hackers came up with.

Can I Still Use A Mod Chip?

Mod chips are not terribly expensive, but they aren’t really cheap either. They cost an average of $45.

That’s why I suggest you use the Homebrew Channel soft mod technique. The Homebrew channel can be installed in a few minutes and is absolutely free.

This trick exploits a flaw in the Wii’s messaging system and allows you to load the Homebrew channel using a software called “Letterbomb.”

Homebrew also allows you to play games on your Wii from an SD card or USB flash drive. Which of course makes everything a whole lot more fun.

And the best part is that it’s still working for the most recent 4.3 update.

How Can I Get My 4.3 Wii Modded?

There are lots of tutorials all over the internet on how mod your Wii. The problem is, a lot of them are outdated.

I’ve found a lot of tutorials still teaching the old Legend of Zelda trick. That is not going to work anymore.

And I’ve already mentioned why I don’t like using a mod chip.

In my honest opinion, it’s best you get a really good tutorial and do it on your own.

Like most things in life, you get what you pay for. If you try to use a free online Wii mod tutorial…well expect a free online tutorial.

Or you can pay about $30 for a really good, detailed, and easy video tutorial with lots of add-ons and extra stuff.

And don’t think that this is only for those who want the Wii 4.3 mod. Even if you have an earlier firmware version, these tutorials will help you turn your Wii loose.

Why You Should Use A Wii Mod Chip?

If you’ve read any of my other articles, you know I don’t like the Wii chip mod technique. I think it’s a little too difficult and the dangers are too risky.

That’s why I generally suggest using Homebrew Channel, also known as a Wii soft mod. But there may be times when you might want to install a mod chip in your Wii. This is what’s known as a hard mod.

The primary reason you may want to hard mod your Wii is if you messed up the soft mod. Even though it’s fairly simple to mod your wii using Homebrew, it is possible to make a mistake.

If you don’t install the right software in the right order, you’ll turn your Wii into a fancy plastic brick.

That’s why I encourage you to get a qualified, well-known, highly-endorsed tutorial instead.

But if you did accidentally disable your Wii, then you might be forced to go the Wii chip mod route.

How Do I Install The Mod Chip?

There are lots of tutorials online on how to do this. The procedure involves the following steps.

First you have to actually purchase the mod chip. It’s absolutely crucial that you get the right chip for your Wii. Different consoles have different security chips so you have to make sure you get the right mod chip to override your Wii’s security.

To do this, you may want to do some research on Google or in Hacker forums.

Once you have the chip, open up your Wii using a regular screwdriver. There are a lot of hidden screws, so you may also want to use a razor or other sharp object to remove the rubber pieces covering them.

After you’ve removed all the screws, carefully take off the outer Wii cover. The DVD drive is being held down by four screws. Unscrew the DVD drive from the motherboard and unclip the power cord and ribbon cable.

Then you simply place your Wii mod chip over the security chip and press it firmly into place. Reattach the drive to the motherboard, connect the ribbon cable and power cord and test it out.

If the system turns on with no problem, then you’ve done everything right. From that point you only have to put your Wii back together and you’re all set.

I must repeat, I do not necessarily recommend using a hard mod. It’s much better for you to soft mod your Wii and preferably with a good tutorial. But if you’ve disabled your Wii, then a modchip may be the only way to go.
